lighting by nieuwe heren
Last week we visited the fonQ pop-up store in Amsterdam where we attended their fonQ-blogger event. During this event we got an inspiring presentation about NIEUWE HEREN, freely translated as ‘New Gents’, which is a design company founded by Tim Smit en Erik de Nijs. During this presentation they showed us how their beautiful leather LLOYD lamp is made.
NIEUWE HEREN works with 'real' materials, like leather, concrete and steel which are extremely durable, and that hopefully contributes to a cleaner and more aware society.
Their LLOYD hanging lamp is a product made from leather which gives the lights an industrial feel to the room. Each and every individual lamp is handmade using an old method for hardening and moulding leather into its form. This piece of lighting design is beautifully finished, with a bold stitch visible on the sides.
Their Barrel light was inspired by the aesthetics of WWI searchlights. Now more friendly but still a strong and sturdy shape that provides a steady source of light in any type of space. It is crafted out of wood, steel and concrete.
Curious to see more of their designs? Visit the NIEUWE HEREN website.
