Iconic then, Iconic now - The Eternal Flower - &Tradition X Panton

If you follow me on instagram you may have seen on my stories and in my feed that I was invited at presentation of the updates to the iconic Verner Panton Flowerpot and Topan lamps.in Antwerp last Thursday.

In close collaboration with the Panton family, &Tradtion was pleased to welcome five new and exciting, vibrant colours to the Flowerpot range for 2023: Cobalt Blue, Swim Blue, Vermilion Red, Tangy Pink and Dark Plum. Alongside this exciting palette refresh, they’re also reissuing a show-stopping Panton original — a 1970s black and white wave pattern.

Intended to bring personality and playfulness into all and every environment, these scintillating additions were inspired by Panton’s love of experimentation with shapes, materials and, most importantly, colour.

Cobalt Blue and Swim Blue While Cobalt Blue is an intense and contemporary shade which presents as highly adaptable, it was also an original and a popular choice for Panton in his early works. Swim Blue, on the other hand, serves a freshness and provides a cool, aquatic nuance to the Flowerpot range.

Tangy Pink and Vermillion Red, an exuberant and eye-catching hue, brings a pop of colour to rooms while setting an energetic and optimistic ambience. Vermillion Red holds a bold and compelling presence, mimicking a classic, red lipstick. Both shades were informed by the Panton archives and, though new to the Flowerpot, were found used in an invitation for Panton’s 60th birthday party in 1986.

Dark Plum is a chic and sophisticated tone that holds a mock black nuance and is definitely my favorite colour! A never-before-used shade in the Flowerpot form, this is a deep and powerful tone which can be identified in other Panton classics like the Ring Lamp, a modular lighting element designed in 1969 for the Visiona installation. At the highlights of my instagram stories and in my feed (here) you will see more of the presentation , where we also attented the very inspiring designtalk 'Living with Colour' at MoMu - Fashion museum Antwerp, which brought together practitioners and curators from across different design disciplines, to reflect on the role of colour within design.

The compelling panel, consisted of Sabine Marcelis, Dr Lucia Savi and Els Van Hoorebeeck, was moderated by Oli Stratford, and opened with a speech by Carin Panton - Verner Panton’s daughter - Elvera

The new Vermillion Red colourway has been added to the Flowerpot VP4 and Flowerpot VP8 models, Flowerpot VP4 is also available with a new Chrome finish, while Flowerpot VP8 is also now in vivid Signal Green.

In an exciting reissue of a Verner Panton original, this retro, hypnotic-style pattern was first used in the 70s. Guaranteed to spark scintillating conversation under its glow, this design is a small piece of history plucked straight from the Panton family’s archives.
