Louisiana x Ferm Living
Louisiana, if you haven't been there, I really want you to promise me to go once. Or twice. Actually, everytime you visit Copenhagen, you should go to Louisiana. By train, because then you see the landscape of Denmark as well. Sit down and soak it all up. I don't miss traveling, I don't miss eating outdoors, I don't miss shopping, I like to be at home. But I do miss Copenhagen, and I do miss Louisiana. So as soon as possible, I will go again. And I can't wait. That being said, I love Ferm LIVING and their entire world they have created as well. So, YES, Louisiana x Ferm LIVING. Did I mention I like stripes as well? - Vivian
Dedicated to modern art, Louisiana has since its opening in 1958 been Denmark's most forward-thinking art museum, shaking up the status quo with original and provocative exhibitions, and has exhibited the works of Pablo Picasso, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo and many others.
With its somewhat hidden location in Copenhagen suburb of Humlebæk, it might come as a surprise that you often have to queue to get in. The art museum is renowned for its architecture, Children's Wing, concerts, shop and literature festival, just to name a few. Lying peacefully on the outskirts of a forest and overlooking the Øresund Sound, this modern art museum is the epitome of beautiful nature and architectural brilliance, and many visitors to Copenhagen have Louisiana on their itinerary as a day trip.
A testament to modern art and design, the design brand ferm LIVING invites you to explore a new collaboration between the Danish Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and ferm LIVING. The result is an intriguing, woven fabric with bold black and sand stripes on the Rico Lounge Chair and Rico 2-Seater from ferm LIVING.
Entering the collaboration, it was key that the design would echo the understated elegance that is the very essence of the iconic modern art museum. Shop Manager at Louisiana, Peter Myrthu Elmegaard says: "the beautiful new fabric for the Rico Lounge Chair and 2-Seater is the result of a great collaboration between us and ferm LIVING. For the first time, we have been deeply involved in the development of a design that has a clear starting point in Louisiana's architecture".
A significant trademark for Louisiana is their use of tall, whitewashed walls, exposed structures, wooden ceilings, and deep-red tiled floors. It was their significant play with these contrasts in colours and materials that inspired the characteristic Louisiana x ferm LIVING fabric.
For Trine Andersen, ferm LIVING's founder & Creative Director, the decision to start a collaboration with Louisiana felt natural. "When I visit Louisiana, it doesn't feel like I'm at a museum. It's more like a home - as if I'm visiting someone who collects art and is inspired by boundaries between art, architecture and design. The overall aesthetic and sensory experience that Louisiana's intimate atmosphere provides resonates with me", she explains and continues: "There is also a lot of significance in being "out of town" - in quiet surroundings where you find this gorgeous "sanctuary" with an amazing garden and an incredible view. I love going there for the art exhibitions, but for me, the total experience represents so much more than that. It exudes serenity and a set of values in which I feel comfortable. We are incredibly proud of this collaboration; Louisiana is an institution for both art and design, and in my view, it is Denmark's best art museum."
The Rico Series welcomes curves and volumes into a classic design defined by soft lines and an embracing expression. With the Louisiana x ferm LIVING collaboration, the design brand invites you to enjoy a moment of stillness of the lounge chair and sofa's curved, comfortable embrace. The curvaceous nature of the Rico series adds a modern union of comfort and elegance. The clean and classic expression of the striped textile on the Rico Lounge Chair and the Rico 2-Seater has been designed in partnership with Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and is inspired by the graphic lines and discreet modernism of Louisiana's iconic architecture. The classic yet bold stripe mirrors the pervasive wooden slats and black window frames distinctive to Louisiana, as does the understated black and sand colourway. The contrasts of the clean, classic lines together with the roundness of the Rico Lounge Chair and the Rico 2-Seater makes a comfortably iconic design, which invites a moment of slowness and stillness into the home.
