Nordic Stories - Pia Wallén X ARKET
My working process very often starts from different projects I’ve done before. I work a lot with continuation, editing. It’s like a research process. My plan was to be a lawyer but I had a huge interest in fashion, materials, fabrics, colours and shapes, and so I changed that path. I had no choice. Sometimes I think I could sit in a cave and still create.’ - Pia Wallén
This week ARKET has launched a new capsule collection designed in collaboration with Pia Wallén. This collection is the second chapter in ARKET’s series Nordic Stories – exclusive collaborations with independent creators and cultural institutions from the Nordic region. and features women’s clothing, accessories and interior furnishings.
I remember it so well... a few years ago you could see them in just about every interior: the well known Pia Wallén Cross blankets. She then described the cross as a typical symbol from the Swedish design world, the cross stands for hope and 'a meeting point of heaven and earth'. Pia Wallén is one of the most celebrated designers in the contemporary Scandinavian scene. With a career that spans over several decades and fields, she continues to deliver iconic designs that become trademarks of her vision, defined by a careful consideration of every aspect from materials, shapes and proportions to production processes and, of course, design.
The carefully curated ARKET catalogue revisits some of her iconic work through materials and graphic elements that belong to her usual palette. Parting from two signature materials in Pia Wallén’s portfolio – felted wool and cotton quilts – You will find this new Nordic Story here - Elvera
