When in Milan - Fondazione Prada
Yesterday's post about the Beosound Edge by Bang & Olufsen immediately reminded me of their fantastic installation during the Milan Design week. We already shared some posts about this week but today I want to share a few snapshots of another highlight during our visit to Milan: the Fondazione Prada.
This museum of modern art museum, designed by Rem Koolhaas, is located in a former gin distillery dating from 1910 in the Largo Isarco industrial complex on the southside of Milan and is a coexistence of new and regenerated buildings including warehouses, laboratories and brewing silos, as well as new buildings surrounding a large courtyard. The Haunted House, a four-story industrial building covered with gold leaf, is the most striking element of the Fondazione if you ask me… it looks stunning!
Rem Koolhaas and his colleagues Chris van Duijn and Federico Pompignoli renovated seven of the old distillery buildings and built a new cinema and exhibition gallery, ahead of the centre's opening back in 2015. A white concrete tower - Torre - was still under construction at that time, is opened April 2018 and showcases a collection of contemporary art. Unfortunately we could not view everything extensively due to our tight schedule, but the beautiful design, the buildings and the different art exhibitions made us definitely want to go back next year! - Elvera -
