colours in perfect shape

The Series 7 chair, 1955 by Arne Jacobsen, is designed for eternity, some would say. And we agree. The chair has become a style icon and is seen by many as one of the finest examples of timeless design.  Series 7 has now reached its 60th anniversary and is still in perfect shape.

To celebrate the chair, Fritz Hansen asked the Danish artist Tal R to pick nine new colours for the chair. Tal R, who is internationally profound for his sense for colour, chose to use two of the colours both on the base and the seat shell to produce a monochrome look. The new looks makes us read the chair differently, seeing it as a single shape unlike the traditional chrome frame edition. He has created nine artistic colours, all blends and all variable colours that change the light, the space, the seasons and other aspects of the environment. Because colour is not just a colour. That's why Fritz Hansen prefers artistic colours to industrial colours, diverity to uniformity and the natural to the artificial. The result is a piece of furniture that will continue to live, surprise and inspire.

A few weeks ago, we were invited to visit the Fritz Hansen showroom and workspace, where we got to meet all the new colours. We had a chance to meet Tal R in his studio, where he told us about the colours, the names and how they grew to a Series 7 colour.
